Chinese New Years

Chinese New Years was a colorful and invigorating experience. I must admit that going to a Chinese New Year celebration in Motomachi, Japan was a little weird. However I believe that it gave me a good taste of the real deal.

Since the event was so wide-spread and the attendance was in the hundreds, I had to pick the event that I wanted to shoot. I decided to shoot the dragon dancers due to the visual possibilities it had to offer.

After almost two hours of waiting, I was able to secure a front row viewing of the event. This enabled me to bust out my SB-800 to do some rear-sync flashing. As I was shooting I noticed that the dragons were too far and big to get the effect that I wanted so I decided to go the fill-flash route.

Overall the event was a blast and I got a few good images out of it as well. If I am in Japan for Chinese New Years again, I will head to the biggest one in Japan…Yokohama.
