Tokyo Disney

On my first day of winter break, I went to Tokyo Disneyland with Karen, Christy and Nick. The last time I was at a Disneyland (California version) is when I was around six years old. So, I don’t really remember the details to compare all the aspects of the parks. However, I will say that the Tokyo version is much cuter and more magical than it’s American version.

Cuteness overload:

Tokyo Disneyland
Everything in Tokyo Disney was cute, from the transfer buses to the dinning area. This is probably due to the combination of the craze and love for Disney and for everything to be super adorable. It was quite enjoyable (for the most part) to have everything so cute because it gives opportunities to get some unique and funny shots along the way. Moreover, it got everyone into the mood to do silly stuff like don silly hats, such as my Stitch hat. However at the end of the day, I was ready to leave this cuteness utopia for a place more barren and cold.

The rides:

The rides were the same from what I could remember as a child. The park featured a teacup ride, a merry-go-round, Space Mountain and many similar attractions as in America. The lines were of course long, but they did have an option to get advanced tickets before the ride (usually 2 hours before you could ride). I enjoyed all of the rides I got to experience even though it was only a handful.

Time to eat:

The food was what I would consider “typical” theme park food, meaning over-priced and decent in quality. However the presentation was excellent, especially with the Queen of Hearts Banquet Hall. Tokyo Disneyland
The original Alice in Wonderland cartoon is one of my favorite Disney cartoons so this was a real thrill. They had all of the characters stationed through out the hall and the food was modified for the theme as well. It almost felt like I was dinning in Wonderland.
The park had various themed foods for each section of the park. For example, they had turkey legs for Westernland and a toon burger for Toontown. But perhaps the most peculiar food that was offered was curry popcorn. That’s right, curry was substituted for butter and placed on fresh popcorn. I didn’t have time to sample it, but from the smell, I was unsure if it would have been good or bad.

Overall the experience was great and I will be going back. I enjoyed the experience more in Japan because everyone gets into the fun, including the parents and the elderly. Also, it appears that the Tokyo version has a lot more creative liberty in what they can change (for cuteness), which makes the park a lot more enjoyable because there a combinations of different cartoons that you would never imagine together. One example would be the Mickey Mouse dolls wearing Stitch costumes. Also, going with a bunch of great friends makes the experience so much better. If you visit Tokyo, make sure to stop by Disneyland for a fun adventure.
